? >> reporter: that's right. hi. president obama i'm told by sources here was in the residence tonight watching television reports of the pursuit and that all the developments in watertown as we were, and he saw this go down just as we did. as soon as it was happening, he went over to the oval office to get the latest updates from his staff and then fbi director robert muller called him to officially let him know that the suspect had been captured alive. and he decided to come out and make a statement, i'm told by staff, and they brought in a local news from boston throughout the day so they could monitor actually some of the events all day long. they were revitied to the television just as we were. so the president updated throughout the day, and he is here back at work and ready to come in, brief the nation on a -- an exciting end and a, you know, successful law enforcement conclusion to all of this and the beginning of even more further investigation, piers. we're waiting for him any moment. >> before the president speaks, important to remind everybody again that as they've made this capture
it up with obama. >> if you start to torture an american citizen for committing a domestic crime in america, you are crossing the rubicon. >> can i ask you a question? what would you do if you were given the opportunity? if osama bin laden, if you had 30 minutes in the room, would you play cards with osama bin laden? >> let me put this to you. >> no. you answer this. if you met this scumbag -- >> i'm doing the interview. >> if you met these scumbag before he killed these people and turned people into amputees, what would you do, play cards? maybe i should say it in a british accent. this man killed innocent men, women and children. >> can you stop being such a jerk? >> what would you do? you get paid for it. i would give you a taste of your own medicine. >> you tweeted this to the world. i'm curious what you think. your behavior so far has been really offensive. >> because you don't like it when you don't have another bobblehead you can beat up and treat like a coward? the reality is these men killed innocent men, women and children. as a red-blooded american, i say who out there
-old martin richard, and krystle campbell. >>> president obama will travel to boston on thursday. now we go to chris cuomo live for us in boston. it seems here we are 24 hours more or later and nobody seems to have a real clue who has done this or why. >> reporter: that shouldn't be surprising, piers, these investigations take a very long time to develop, especially starting with being multifactorial, no group claiming responsibility. so much ground to canvas, this is going to be a difficult investigation. i think it's good news that the authorities said in their presser that they're in no rush. very often as we both know, haste makes waste when it comes to an investigation. this is about getting it right. >> that is true. i imagine there'll be some people in boston who will be concerned for their safety. that the perpetrator of this atrocity is still at large. >> that's absolutely true. at least that's what they believe at this time, piers. but what is also true, there's never been as large a military and police presence in this city as there is right now. in the presser, they asked for pa
-- department of homeland security administration under president obama, worked for governor deval patrick. you heard gabe ramirez's report. you know that the fbi is trying to figure out if there is a connection, this individual has been asked to strip naked. none of this, you are a boston resident, you know that none of this is normal activity, even for a high -- a big pursuit of a major criminal. none of this is normal even for that scenario. what are your thoughts as the story unfolds? we want to keep away from speculation as to what we don't know. what is the information you're waiting to hear from law enforcement? >> well, we'll hear a definite determination, i think, that if it's not a match. in other words, they have no interest in everyone, including the public, it seems like everyone is awake right now based on my e-mails. they have no interest in having the public believe that the marathon bombers, the marathon culprits are caught. so if it's not a match, that will come out faster than if it was a match. that's simply -- why get everyone all worked up that these guys have been capture
